Steven Gerrard 9-1 to win title in first year at Rangers

Steven Gerrard agreed a four-year contract to be the new manager of Rangers yesterday, but bookmakers believe he has lots of work to do if he is to topple his former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and beat Celtic to the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership next season.

The high-profile appointment should be a huge boost to Rangers fans still smarting from the 5-0 drubbing they suffered against their arch-rivals last week, but Gerrard, who graduates from the Liverpool academy to his first managerial position, is 9-1 with Hills to end the Bhoys’ seven-season domination of the Scottish title next term.

The former England midfielder, who will be assisted by former Liverpool teammate Gary McAllister, is 5-2 not to be at the Ibrox helm on New Year’s Day and 11-8 with Betway to win the Premiership before 2022.

The regular-season programme in Sky Bet Leagues One and Two ends today and punters are smelling a conspiracy at Coventry.

Morecambe head to the Ricoh Arena knowing that a point would preserve their league status, while a draw would also enable the Sky Blues to reach the League Two playoffs.

More than £33,000 had been matched on the game on Betfair yesterday – more than any of today’s non-televised Premier League matches – and the draw is as short as 11-10.

Betfair are best-priced about the game finishing level at 7-5.
Similar theories were prominent in the division last week when Accrington needed a point to claim the title while opponents Lincoln would have claimed a playoff spot with a draw. However, Stanley won the game 1-0.

Atletico Madrid are 4-9 to win the Europa League after they overcame Arsenal in Thursday’s semi-final. Opponents Marseille are 9-4 to lift the trophy.
