Match preview
Spain can come out on top against Germany to secure a place at next year's Uefa Nations League finals.
Spain slipped up against Switzerland on Saturday and Germany prevailed against Ukraine, setting up the crunch clash between the sides at the Estadio de La Cartuja.
Both European heavyweights have made hard work of League A Group 4, with Germany top on nine points from five games and Spain second on eight points with one match remaining.
The advantage was with Spain heading into the weekend but even though they managed 71 per cent possession and won the shot count 20-7, they could salvage only a 1-1 draw with Switzerland.
Luis Enrique's men deserved more from the match, in which Sergio Ramos missed two penalties on his 177th appearance for his country, but they should be fancied to take maximum points this time.
Spain's biggest area of concern has been a lack of goals - something not helped by the absence of Barcelona wonderkid Ansu Fati - but the onus is on them to attack against Germany, who have been vulnerable at the back.
In Mikel Oyarzabal, who is La Liga's top scorer with six strikes this term, Gerard Moreno, who fired 20 goals for Villarreal last season, and Manchester City new boy Ferran Torres, they have numerous players who know where the net is and it should not take much to breach Die Mannschaft.
Timo Werner's brace in the 3-1 win over a depleted Ukraine side emphasised Germany remain a danger in the final third but they are still plagued by defensive issues.
PSV's summer signing Phillip Max offers plenty going forwards from left-back but is an area of weakness and Germany have kept only one clean sheet in their last seven contests.
Their defence is a work in progress and they may struggle to contain a Spain team who need to win this contest and love to monopolise possession.
The reverse fixture finished 1-1 in Stuttgart in September but Spain dominated that game with 59 per cent possession and won the shot count 12-10.
Enrique's side are also a different beast on home soil, having won their last seven competitive matches in their own backyard.
They kept clean sheets in six of those matches and with both the defensive edge and a range of attacking options, La Roja look a decent odds-against selection to book their spot in the 2021 Nations League finals.
Key stat
Germany have won only three of their last seven games in all competitions.
