Southampton beat Bournemouth to boost survival bid

The Premier League relegation battle looks set for a thrilling finale after the bottom three all picked up positive results on Saturday.

Southampton are only one point from safety following a much-needed 2-1 triumph over Bournemouth at St Mary's. Dusan Tadic was the Saints' hero, scoring either side of Josh King's equaliser.

Stoke, in 19th, are two points behind Southampton having played one match more, but they gamely held on for a goalless stalemate at Liverpool and now have two easier fixtures to finish with a home date against Crystal Palace before a last-day trip to 17th-placed Swansea, who also host Southampton before the campaign closes.

Bottom club West Brom live to fight another day after recording a 1-0 win at Newcastle. All that was all bad news for Swansea, who were beaten 1-0 by top-four hopefuls Chelsea.

Huddersfield, three points clear of the drop zone, will be nervously looking over their shoulder following a 2-0 home loss to Everton, but Brighton eased their fears with a 0-0 draw at Burnley and Palace rose to the dizzy heights of 11th with a 5-0 romp over ten-man Leicester.

Cardiff moved back up to second in the Sky Bet Championship after a 2-0 win at Hull. Sean Morrison scored both goals to put the Bluebirds on the brink of a return to the Premier League.

Accrington, 33-1 shots ante-post, were crowned League Two champions thanks to a 1-0 success against Lincoln, who still need a point to secure a playoff spot. Wycombe's win at Chesterfield saw the Chairboys promoted alongside Stanley and Luton.

The line-up for the new-look six-team National League playoffs has been decided. Aldershot host Ebbsfleet and AFC Fylde travel to Boreham Wood in the qualifying round with the winners visiting and Tranmere and Sutton respectively in the semi-finals.
