Preview

Knit together Wigan's solid home form with Swansea's excellent away record, stir in a lack of goals from both sides, and the draw looks a fair bet at the DW Stadium.

Wigan tackle the Swans having won four out of their last six at home – their only loss in front of their own supporters was against Leeds, a 2-0 reverse in which they were a man down for 70 minutes.

Swansea are unbeaten in six away with wins at QPR and Leeds in that sequence.

The Welsh side are ten points superior to their hosts and the oddsmakers prefer their chances, but Wigan are a decent side under Paul Cook.

They have impressed on their last two road trips at Derby and Bristol City, dropping points late on in both.

Wigan are a solid unit who aren't easy to beat but they are crying out for imagination going forward. Twelve goals in 14 matches tells a story, though Cook seems reluctant to give the talented Joe Gelhardt a run, which is a shame because the 17-year-old looks like a proper playmaker.

Athletic beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 in their last home game, the ninth time in 14 that one of their matches has produced two or fewer goals.

Swansea pipped bitter rivals Cardiff 1-0 last Sunday bu that was just their second win in nine.

Steve Cooper had made wholesale changes following a home humiliation by Brentford and isn't afraid to change personnel and tactics.

Like Wigan, they look light in attack with just six goals scored in their last eight games.
