Sheffield Wednesday need to better Derby's result this weekend to have any hope of staying in the Championship and they can give themselves the best chance by defeating Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough.

Derby's contest at Swansea kicks off later in the afternoon, so Wednesday will have no idea whether a draw could be of any value to them.

However, the Owls may appreciate the opportunity to strike the first blow of the day and try to put as much pressure as possible on to Derby's shoulders.

Conspiracy theorists among the Derby fanbase might anticipate a sub-standard effort from Forest due to the bitter rivalry between the clubs.

But Forest boss Chris Hughton won't see it that way, although the bigger obstacle to them stopping the Owls is a sheer lack of quality.

Hughton's outfit have won just two of their last 12 games and look ideal opposition for a Wednesday side drinking in the last-chance saloon.
