Match preview

Just five points separate the top ten teams in the Sky Bet Championship and both Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds would be boosted by moving to the top of the pile with a win at Hillsborough.

Of the two Yorkshire rivals, Leeds have the stronger case to think they should be at the head of affairs.

Marcelo Bielsa's team make the short trip to South Yorkshire having failed to win their last three away games, but their performances have deserved better.

They lost at Charlton despite dominating the game and it was a similar story at Millwall, while they squandered a host of opportunities at Preston on Tuesday when on-loan Eddie Nketiah grabbed a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw.

Bielsa may be perturbed by the fact that striker Patrick Bamford continues to misfire and hasn't found the target since August, but it would not be a surprise to see United kick on as the season progresses and make up for last season's playoff disappointment.

Wednesday are in decent shape themselves as Garry Monk has steadied the ship following Steve Bruce's departure to Newcastle on the eve of the campaign.

A 1-0 reverse at Hull has been the Owls' only defeat in their last seven matches and Tuesday's 1-0 win over Stoke has gained some credibility now the Potters appear to have found some decent form.

So while Leeds are demonstrating that they could be a cut above many of their second-tier opponents, this could still prove a tough game.

Few goals are anticipated and it would not be a surprise if the Yorkshire sides cannot be separated.

Key stat

Seven of Leeds' last eight league matches have featured fewer than three goals.
