Weekend preview

Hibernian have suffered three straight defeats in the Scottish Premiership but they look excellent value to get back on the winning trail at home to St Mirren on Saturday.

The Hibees had managed four victories on the bounce - against Kilmarnock, Aberdeen, Ross County and Motherwell - prior to a defeat at Dundee United which began their trio of reversals.

However, Lee Johnson’s side commanded 64 per cent possession and won the shot count 17-3 at Tannadice, so Hibs could count themselves a tad unfortunate. They were then beaten by table-topping Celtic and led St Johnstone 1-0 in their latest outing before Kyle Magennis’s dismissal changed the game.

Those results portray an inconsistent side, but in truth Hibs remain a solid outfit and they look to have been underestimated by the layers.

St Mirren beat Dundee United 2-1 at home last weekend, but they were outplayed by the Terrors and are unlikely to be so fortunate on their visit to Easter Road.

Rangers, whose European campaign was all but ended by Napoli on Tuesday, have won just five of their last 11 matches and they look ripe for taking on at home to Aberdeen on Saturday.

Of course, the Dons aren't of the same calibre as the sides Gers have come up against in the Champions League this season, but a 1-1 league draw against Livingston, a 1-0 League Cup victory over Championship side Dundee and a 2-1 win against relegation-threatened Dundee United are hardly the results of a rampant side.

Backing Aberdeen in the double-chance market is certainly worth considering, but backing both teams to score at a shade of odds-on looks the play.

Rangers have failed to keep a clean sheet in six of their last nine matches at Ibrox and in Bojan Miovski and Duk, who have netted 16 league goals between them this season, the Dons have a strike partnership who can cause the Light Blues problems.
