Rangers came up short in an enthralling 2021-22 Scottish title race but the Gers begin their bid to go one better at Livingston on the opening day of the new campaign.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has lost the services of key players Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo during the summer, but the Dutch boss has made some interesting moves in the transfer market of his own, snapping up Ben Davies from Liverpool and Welsh youngster Rabbi Matondo.

And their recent record against Livi will give the Gers boss plenty of optimism of beginning the new season with three points. Rangers have won six of their last seven meetings with David Martindale’s men without conceding and they are fancied to kick off the new term with another comfortable victory.

Hibs' new era under Lee Johnson couldn’t have got off to a much worse start. New signing Aiden McGeady has already been ruled out for two months through injury and the Hibees were handed a penalty for fielding an ineligible player in the Scottish League Cup, sealing their early exit in that competition.

However, young midfielder Ewan Henderson has been a rare bright spark. The 22-year-old has made a permanent switch to Easter Road from Celtic in the summer and has been used in a more advanced role than during his loan spell at the club last season.

Henderson netted three times in four games in the League Cup and is likely to play either from the left or as the number ten against St Johnstone.

The youngster could be one of the most potent attacking options in an opening clash between two two sides who look a little light up front. He could be overpriced to get on the scoresheet.
