Match preview

Rangers face a crucial Champions League playoff second leg on Wednesday but first they must travel to Easter Road to take on Hibs.

Even though Giovanni van Bronckhorst is likely to make a number of changes, the Gers should still have too much for their opponents.

Hibs opened the season with a victory but were second-best for large parts of the Edinburgh derby before scoring a late equaliser, and followed that up with a 2-1 defeat against Livingston last week.

New manager Lee Johnson is still working out his best line-up and even a rotated Rangers side look set to take advantage. They are fancied to cover a one-goal handicap.

Hearts also face the second leg of a European adventure next week as they take on FC Zurich in their Europa League play-off at Tynecastle after losing 2-1 in Switzerland.

Arguably the worst possible fixture to be sandwiched between those two is a visit to Celtic Park and it is looking particularly ominous given the goalscoring mood the Bhoys have been in this season.

Ange Postecoglou’s men have scored ten times in three matches and with the Jam Tarts likely to rotate with one eye on Thursday, Celtic could fill their boots once more.

One player who is yet to score is Daizen Maeda. However, the Japanese forward netted six times in 14 starts last year and the 6-4 for him to find the net in this clash makes plenty of appeal given his side’s likely dominance.
