Season preview

Hearts were broken as they suffered a shock relegation from the Scottish Premiership in 2019-20 and the layers are expecting one of the three teams who finished directly above them to suffer a similar fate this season.

Just two points separated St Mirren, Ross County and Hamilton above relegated Hearts last term and with decent things expected of promoted Dundee United, they look the teams most likely to struggle.

Hamilton have reached no higher than tenth in their last five campaigns and have been flirting with the drop for some time, finishing second-bottom last season with 27 points from 30 games.

The Accies have also lost two key defensive assets in Alex Gogic and Aaron McGowan to Hibernian and Kilmarnock respectively and they appear considerably weaker than when they were last in action nearly five months ago.

With Mickel Miller, top scorer two seasons ago, heading to Rotherham and George Oakley having been snapped up by Bulgarian side Pirin Blagoevgrad, there is added pressure on Marios Ogkmpoe to perform.

St Mirren, on the other hand, have recruited well and the addition of former Ross County captain Marcus Fraser, Joe Shaughnessy, Richard Tait and goalkeeper Jak Alnwick look to have strengthened their defence sufficiently.

The Saints should have enough to steer clear of the drop, while County are not going to struggle for goals with Billy McKay and Ross Stewart spearheading their attack.
