Match preview

Rotherham’s clash with Coventry on Thursday is the very definition of a ‘relegation six-pointer’ and that could lead to a cagey start to proceedings at the New York Stadium.

The third-bottom Millers trail the Sky Blues by just three points but while they have eight fixtures to play, Coventry have only six.

The outcome of this match will have huge ramifications on the relegation picture and neither will want to take too many risks, before a goal sparks the contest into life.

It is also a third league fixture in the space of just five days for Rotherham, who scored three second-half goals to come from behind to beat QPR on Tuesday, so fatigue may be a factor for them as the game wears on.

Rotherham have scored 27 of their 41 league goals in the second half of matches this season while there have been 51 goals netted in the final 45 minutes of Coventry’s fixtures, compared to 41 before the break.

Key stat

There have been 93 goals scored across Rotherham's 38 league matches this season, with 54 netted in the second half.
