Match preview

Since the Spanish Super Cup moved to a four-team format in 2020, Real Madrid have won two of the three editions and the reigning La Liga champions should come through their semi-final clash with Valencia.

The winners of this contest face either Barcelona or Real Betis in Sunday's showpiece and it ought to be Los Blancos, last season's Super Cup victors, who line up at the King Fahd International Stadium.

Like the final, Wednesday's match is also being played in Riyadh and Real should be keen to hit back after suffering a 2-1 defeat at Villarreal in La Liga on Saturday.

Valencia were also beaten in their last league fixture as they suffered a 1-0 loss at home to Cadiz, meaning they have won just two of their ten La Liga games since mid-September.

Gennaro Gattuso's men find themselves 11th in La Liga and, although they haven't yet played Real this term, the Bats have won only one of their six meetings with top-seven outfits.

That record doesn't bode well for their meeting with a Real attack spearheaded by Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior although defensive problems persist for the Madrid side and injuries to David Alaba and Aurelien Tchouameni won't help their cause.

Despite winning 12 of their opening 16 games in La Liga, Carlo Ancelotti's men have managed just three clean sheets while they also conceded in their final four games of the Champions League group stage.

Valencia may not boast the same quality as Real in attack but they are usually good for a goal and have failed to score in only two of their last 13 league matches.

Last season Real won both La Liga meetings but Valencia bagged a consolation goal on each occasion, which could be a useful pointer for punters in the Super Cup semi-final showdown.
