Match preview
Celtic have one last chance to beat Rangers in the final Old Firm derby of the season, but they could come up short at Ibrox.
It’s been a season of turmoil for the Bhoys and they don’t look to be playing well enough to record a first win of the season over their Glasgow rivals.
Celtic were beaten 2-0 by the Gers at Parkhead in October, and although they improved when losing 1-0 at Ibrox in January, their progress seems to have stalled.
The Bhoys held the runaway champions to a 1-1 draw on their own patch in March, but any thoughts of a Celtic upturn were dashed when they were brushed aside 2-0 in the Scottish Cup a couple of weeks ago.
One glimmer of hope for John Kennedy’s side is that Rangers have injury problems in defence.
Steven Gerrard will be without Filip Helander, Leon Balogun and Nikola Katic, meaning that Jack Simpson is set to make his Old Firm debut at the heart of the Gers defence.
However, even facing a depleted rearguard Celtic don’t appear to have the tools to take advantage.
Rangers have won all of their 17 home league matches this term and Gerrard’s side have shipped just three league goals at Ibrox.
The Gers are 20 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership but they still have the chance of an unbeaten season, and although motivation for an Old Firm derby is rarely in short supply, that incentive should keep them at their peak.
Key stat
Only two of the last 11 meetings between the teams have featured over 2.5 goals.
