Match preview
Eighth-placed Queens Park Rangers have an opportunity to climb to second in a congested Sky Bet Championship table but that hasn’t stopped bookmakers from making opponents Brentford favourites to leave Loftus Road with three points.
Thomas Frank’s buzzing Bees came from 2-0 down with six minutes to go to beat Millwall 3-2 last weekend - due reward for a team who won the shots-on-target count 10-4 - and they were clinical in beating Swansea 3-0 on Tuesday.
They are up against a QPR team who are enjoying a fine start to the campaign under former Brentford boss Mark Warburton and, even though they are outperforming expected-goals quotes, their fixtures are likely to remain among the most entertaining in the Championship.
Matches involving the Hoops average a division-high 3.54 goals per game, and they should create plenty of chances despite the loss of suspended striker Jordan Hugill.
His absence tilts the balance in Brentford’s favour, but QPR still have creativity in the form of Eberechi Eze and Ilias Chair while Nahki Wells provides a goal threat which Brentford’s settled defence will have to deal with.
The Bees are no slouches in attack either with Ollie Watkins likely to prove a persistent danger to a backline who have conceded in every home game this season and have shipped at least two goals in each of their last five matches at Loftus Road.
The layers expect an entertaining contest, and any punter taking odds-on quotes about over 2.5 goals in the match could well be rewarded, but it could pay to expect goals to flow in the second half of the game.
Both teams have demonstrated a penchant for late drama and five of QPR’s seven home matches have featured more goals after the break. That statistic also applies to three of Brentford’s last four games and a similar scenario could unfold in west London.
Key stat
Six of QPR's seven home league games have featured at least two second-half goals.
