Pressure on Morata after penalty blunder

Big-money signings will always be under pressure to perform from the start and it will be interesting to see how Chelsea new boy Alvaro Morata deals with the scrutiny against Burnley at Stamford Bridge.

Morata, who missed from the spot in their Community Shield shootout loss to Arsenal last week, was brought in by Antonio Conte to replace ditched striker Diego Costa and will need to hit the ground running for the champions.

The Spaniard was never seen as the main scoring threat at Juventus and Real Madrid, but he brings an excellent pedigree to Stamford Bridge.

Morata's career minutes-per-goal rating is a tremendous 128, while last season at Real Madrid he made the most of his opportunities to score every 89 minutes in La Liga.

The 24-year-old is 4-1 with Betfair and Paddy Power to break the deadlock against Burnley and 6-5 with the same firms to notch at any time.

On pure goalscoring Morata should have the edge on Costa, who had a career MPG of 157 and recorded a figure of 154 last season, but the Brazilian-born hothead offered the Blues plenty in the way of a physical threat.

Cesc Fabregas could be the one for those interested in players who have an excellent record against certain opponents to follow. Fabregas has twice notched first in this fixture and is 10-1 with bet365 to bring up a hat-trick.

However, in terms of bogey teams Romelu Lukaku will face the perfect opponents when he makes his Manchester United debut against a West Ham side he has scored against on nine occasions.

Lukaku's MPG versus the Hammers is just 103 and many are expecting his career MPG of 160 to come tumbling down now he is up front for the Red Devils.

Wayne Rooney has left Old Trafford to return to his boyhood club Everton and he enjoys facing Stoke. The former England captain has notched against them five times, but never scored the first goal.

However, Wayne appears to be on the wane. His career MPG is 183 but last season's figure was 308 and Sandro Ramirez, who had an MPG of 164 in La Liga last season, could be the better starting option for Everton.

In terms of bets, a player who came good for this column in Sky Bet League One last week is worth sticking with.

Fleetwood's Conor McAleny, who heads to Northampton with a career MPG of 189, bagged a brace against Rotherham and is 12-5 to score again, while Luton's Isaac Vassell is interesting at 7-1 (bet365) each-way at Barnet.

Vassell, whose career MPG of 197 is superior to 9-2 favourite James Collins's 219, is being linked with a move to the Championship but will be a major threat if he starts.
