Premier League survival scrap | Brighton snatch huge point against Newcastle

Pascal Gross scored the goal that could keep Brighton in the Premier League as the Seagulls snatched a 1-1 draw against Newcastle.

Gross's header cancelled out Ayoze Perez's opener and came as a massive relief to Chris Hughton's out-of-form strugglers.

Cardiff have four points to find on Albion and blew a decent opportunity to take a chunk out of that deficit following a 1-0 loss at relegated Fulham. Ryan Babel was on target at Craven Cottage.

Betfair and Paddy Power are 1-100 that Cardiff return to the Sky Bet Championship with Brighton out to 22-1.

Because of Cardiff's vastly inferior goal difference they will need to win their remaining two matches - at home to Crystal Palace and away to Manchester United - to stand a chance of staying up.

Brighton won't be expecting anything from their final fixtures at Arsenal and home to Manchester City, but their current points total should be enough.

Southampton twice led but had to settle for a point in a 3-3 thriller against Bournemouth which saw Saints preserve their top-flight status.

They had been 18th and 7-2 shots for relegation when Ralph Hasenhuttl was appointed to replace Mark Hughes in early December.
