Cristiano Ronaldo was rested for the Nations League group stages but he has certainly stamped his mark on Uefa's new international competition now, after securing Portugal's place in Sunday's final with a classy hat-trick against Switzerland at the Estadio do Dragao.

The hosts, who await the winner of Thursday's Guimaraes semi-final between England and Holland, are now no bigger than 10-11 to add this continental title to their 2016 European Championship crown. The Three Lions are 5-2 to become inaugural champions and the Oranje are 3-1 shots.

Ronaldo, a 12-5 shot to score first, gave the hosts a 25th-minute lead with a swerving free kick and then settled matters in the 88th and 90th minutes with clinical finishes.

Ricardo Rodriguez had levelled matters for Switzerland, who more than played their part in the Porto contest, just before the hour from the penalty spot after a delayed VAR consultation.
