Pilgrims' progress set to continue on trip to Shrewsbury

Plymouth are digging themselves out of a hole for a second successive season and their recent revival – three wins in five Sky Bet League One matches – could be extended when they visit Shrewsbury.

The Devonians were in a similar situation last season - they had 17 points from the first 19 games, one more than this year - and finished just outside the playoffs.

Southend are sliding down the League One table after four successive defeats but they have not been playing too badly and look worthy favourites to topple Scunthorpe at Roots Hall.

The Shrimpers have collected ten points from their four home games against bottom-half teams and can expose the Iron, who have the worst defensive record in the division with 40 goals conceded.

Colchester are clinging onto the third Sky Bet League Two automatic promotion place despite a dip in results but they may have to relinquish it after a loss to Forest Green in Gloucestershire.

Injuries to top scorer Luke Norris (ankle) and goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin (hamstring) have unsettled the Essex outfit and tenth-placed Rovers can take advantage.
