Rob Cross v Mervyn King
A runner-up effort in the Players Championship Finals was a timely confidence boost for Rob Cross - he lost to an inspired Michael van Gerwen in the Butlin's final - and Voltage impressed in his Ally Pally opener against Scott Williams. Mervyn King, a 56-year-old fading force, could be overwhelmed in this all-English clash.
Luke Humphries v Vincent van der Voort
Another Englishman can progress to the fourth round - Luke Humphries overcame considerable first-match nerves to defeat the dangerous Florian Hempel 3-2 in his opener and should be more fluent against Vincent van der Voort. Humphries has been in great nick, making the semi-finals of the Grand Slam of Darts and the Players Championship Finals in the World Championship build-up.
Jonny Clayton v Josh Rock
Josh Rock has handled the weight of expectation to progress through his first three World Championship matches, enjoying a whitewash against Callan Rydz in round two, then edging Nathan Aspinall 4-3. Another tough opponent is waiting in the shape of former Premier League champion Jonny Clayton. It is reasonable to expect a long match with 14 or more 180s.
Kim Huybrechts v Dimitri van den Bergh
Bookmakers have made Dimitri van den Bergh an emphatic favourite for his all-Belgian contest against Kim Huybrechts. DVDB has an edge, but Huybrechts can be backed at odds-against getting a one-and-a-half-set handicap start, which seems generous. Huybrechts lost 4-3 to Phil Taylor in the 2015 Worlds and 4-3 to Gerwyn Price last year. He can give his compatriot a game. The match has been moved to 12.45pm on Friday.
