Dimitri van den Bergh v Jonny Clayton
Dimitri Barbara Peter van den Bergh has the longest name in the World Championship and the Belgian can contribute to a lengthy opening match on quarter-finals day at Ally Pally. The 2020 World Matchplay champion excelled in a 12.45pm contest against Kim Huybrechts on Friday and can push Jonny Clayton from the same start time on Sunday. Eight sets or more in the match is a shade of odds-on.
Michael Smith v Stephen Bunting
Michael Smith has settled into the tournament, relieved and relaxed after sneaking past Martin Schindler in a third-round thriller, and Bully Boy fired ten 180s over just five sets against Joe Cullen last time out. Stephen Bunting managed seven maximums over five sets against Luke Humphries. Over a best-of-nine sets quarter-final which should go a long way, it is reasonable to anticipate 20 or more 180s from these two heavy lipstick ticklers.
Gerwyn Price v Gabriel Clemens
Gerwyn Price has done enough to get through each round, without producing fireworks, and that probably spells trouble for Gabriel Clemens. Price seems likely to step up a gear and take advantage of his opponent's lack of top-class experience. This is uncharted territory for the German, who could easily freeze against an elite foe on the biggest stage of them all. Price appeals at a shade of odds-on giving up 2.5 sets on the handicap.
Michael van Gerwen v Chris Dobey
Gabriel Clemens and Chris Dobey can leave Alexandra Palace contented souls whatever happens in the quarter-finals - they are both thrilled to get this far - while Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen will be disappointed with anything other than the Sid Waddell Trophy. Van Gerwen, full of focus, poise and confidence throughout this competition, seems unlikely to let Dobey take more than a set off him. The Dutch darting dynamo can be backed minus 2.5 sets on the handicap.
