Nancy's decline could continue in Guingamp

Ligue 1 6pm

Guingamp's league season is in danger of fizzling out but the Brittany club still look worthy of support when they host a Nancy team who are in serious danger of returning to French Ligue 2.

The hosts were enjoying a fine campaign and threatening the European places as recently as January but a series of moderate results have seen them slide towards mid-table mediocrity.

Experienced manager Antoine Kombouare will be looking to take advantage of a soft run-in which sees them meet six bottom-half teams in their final eight matches of the campaign.

One of those teams is Nancy, who can only dream of the safe position that Guingamp currently occupy.

The Thistles were as high as 12th as the beginning of February but a dismal run of seven defeats in eight matches has cast serious doubt over their safety.

While they were entitled to struggle against Lyon and PSG, head coach Pablo Correa would not have envisaged them losing to Montpellier, Angers, Caen, Lille and bottom club Lorient - a run that may define their season.

That stretch of failures has left them just three points clear of automatic relegation and they are in 18th place, which would see them contest a relegation playoff with the third-placed team in Ligue 2.

Guingamp, who aren't completely out of the top-six picture, will take heart from their three previous home performances.

They beat Lyon 2-1, were unlucky not to get a point against Monaco and beat Bastia 5-0 with five second-half goals. Expect them to condemn Nancy to another loss.
