Transfer deadline day was fairly quiet for the Premier League clubs with only 12 players joining top-flight clubs.

Michy Batshuayi's loan deal from Chelsea to Crystal Palace was one of the latest deals of the night but may not be enough to transform the Eagles' attack.

Bet365 bet in Batshuayi's league goals over the rest of the season offer 2-5 under 4.5 and 7-4 over 4.5.

By far the biggest deal of the day was Newcastle's £21m capture of Paraguayan attacking midfielder Miguel Almiron from Atlanta Utd.

It was also the second biggest fee of the month paid by an English side but was almost three times less than the reported £58m fee Chelsea shelled out to secure Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund before loaning the player back to the German side.

Overall top-flight spending reached £180m – less than half the £430m spent last winter and the first time there has been a reduction in January spending since 2012.

The big clubs were among the least active with Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham among the five who didn't sign a single player – Everton and Southampton were the others.

Liverpool are a best-priced 8-15 to finish top of the pile while City are 9-5 and Tottenham 40-1.

Liverpool go into the weekend with a five-point lead over Manchester City and bet365 expect them to maintain the advantage.

They bet on how many points Liverpool win the league by and make 4-6 the 11-4 favourite, 1-3 a 7-2 chance and 7-9 a 9-1 shot.

Peterborough Director of Football Barry Fry has been suspended from football until March 1 after accepting an FA charge of breaching betting rules.

Fry's indiscretions relate to last season when he wagered on an unnamed Peterborough player to top the Sky Bet League One scoring charts and backed the Posh to win promotion.
