Manchester City have announced the £52m signing of French left-back Benjamin Mendy from Monaco on a five-year-deal, which has taken their summer spending to more than £200m.

Mendy’s arrival at the Etihad comes just 24 hours after the signing of Real Madrid defender Danilo, who joined for a fee believed to be £26.5m on a five-year deal, while Aleksandar Kolarov has left City for Serie A outfit Roma.

Pep Guardiola’s new signings follow recent arrivals Kyle Walker (£45m from Tottenham), Bernardo Silva (£43 from Monaco) and goalkeeper Ederson (£34m from Benfica) and as a result they are now a best-priced 19-10 with Betfair to lift the Premier League title.

England’s women moved one step closer to the European Championship knockout stages after beating Spain 2-0 on Sunday evening.

Mark Sampson's side took just two minutes to break the deadlock when Fran Kirby fired home before Jodie Taylor - who notched a hat-trick in their opening 6-0 thrashing of rivals Scotland - wrapped the game up five minutes from time.

The Lionesses now need only a draw in their final group match against Portugal to guarantee their progress as group winners, which should mean they avoid ante-post favourites France in the last eight.

Jamaica stunned Mexico in the last four of the Concacaf Gold Cup to tee up a final showdown with USA, who defeated Costa Rica 2-0.

Kemar Lawrence scored the only goal two minutes from time to upset the 4-7 Mexicans.
