Nacional’s dreadful form in the closing stages of 2015-16 has carried through to the new campaign and supporters of the Madeira-based club must be fearing that their 15-year stay in the Portuguese top flight is in danger.

The difference in last season’s home and away performances was stark for the Nationalists, with results poor on the road but impressive on their island base, losing just one of 13 games when hosting teams who finished outside of the Primeira Liga top four.
