Only Paris St-Germain got the better of St-Etienne in their first seven games of the Ligue 1 season but that promising start has swiftly been forgotten.

St-Etienne’s last home fixture was a 5-0 defeat to Lyon in the Rhone derby, which finished shortly before midnight after a delay caused by furious ultras invading the pitch.

Coach Oscar Garcia resigned following the humiliation against Lyon and interim boss Julien Sable’s first game in charge ended in a 3-1 defeat at a Lille side who are second-bottom of the table.

Les Verts have been friendless in the betting for their clash with lowly Strasbourg and the teams’ contrasting recent form suggests the visitors can take at least a point.

St-Etienne have picked up just one point from their last four league games and their only goal during that run was a penalty from Jonathan Bamba.

Strasbourg are on the up after a poor start to the season which featured five defeats in their first seven games.

Losses away to top-three sides Lyon (4-0) and Monaco (3-0) were to be expected but they have been beaten only once in their last six matches.

They beat Nice and Rennes and were a couple of minutes away from a victory over Marseille, who needed a late equaliser from striker Konstantinos Mitroglou to earn a 3-3 draw.

A similar level of performance from Strasbourg could be enough to frustrate their troubled hosts.

Recommendation
Strasbourg or draw double chance
