Leicester are capable of upsetting the odds against Chelsea in the FA Cup final

Former West Ham and Leicester striker Tony Cottee joins the Racing Post team

Ex-Leicester forward Tony Cottee believes his former club can upset the odds and beat Chelsea in Saturday's FA Cup final at Wembley.

Cottee, who was a guest on this week's Racing Post YouTube show Different League in conjunction with Betfred, admits the Blues will be a tough nut to crack but reckons Leicester are being written off too easily, particularly if Jonny Evans is passed fit.

He said: "I think Brendan Rodgers has got to get it right tactically but the big one for Leicester is Evans and if he can overcome the little niggle which has been causing him problems.

"It looks like Leicester have been managing his injury and not wanting to take too many risks, but if you can get Evans alongside Wesley Fofana and Caglar Soyuncu then that is a very strong back three with a lot of quality in front of them.

"Wilfred Ndidi is important just in front of the back three, while Youri Tielemans has been excellent in midfield.

"The front two of Jamie Vardy and in-form Kelechi Iheanacho will occupy those three Chelsea defenders and Brendan's own back three formation stacks up quite well against Chelsea.

"Leicester have never won the FA Cup so it will mean a lot to the club and finals are notoriously tight anyway. So I don't expect a match full of goals but Vardy is already a legend and I can see him putting the finishing touch to his career with the only goal in a 1-0 win.

"The goals have dried up for Vardy but I think he is actually playing really well and this could be his cup final. Leicester are more than capable of giving Chelsea a good game.

"I must admit to being really disappointed when Chelsea sacked Frank Lampard but Thomas Tuchel has been fantastic and looking from the outside it seems as though he has managed to get a few of the more experienced heads back on board, who maybe had their noses put out of joint by Frank putting more trust in the youth.

"Tuchel has organised them defensively and there was never a problem with their attacking output anyway but he deserves huge credit because he would have been under massive pressure to deliver quickly.

"Chelsea have obviously got sensational players going forward but Leicester are up to competing at this level - let's not forget they should make the Champions League now after the win at Manchester United on Tuesday - and it won't be easy for the favourites.

Europa League would still be great season for the Hammers

"West Ham have lost three of their last four matches but people need to put things into perspective and last season they were fighting against relegation.

"They never got going against Everton and looked a bit like rabbits in the headlights which was very frustrating. But the fact that 'West Ham' and 'Champions League' are even being spoken in the same sentence shows how much credit David Moyes deserves for this season.

"Finishing fifth or sixth would still be a great campaign and they could not ask for three better games than Brighton, West Brom and Southampton to get the nine, or maybe seven points needed, to put the club into the Europa League.

"Consistency has been West Ham's biggest problem in the past. I played in the team who got their best ever finish of third in 1986 and we were still challenging for the title right down to the wire. But the year before and the season after we were involved in the battle to stay up which has always been an issue for the club.

"We can beat anyone but Moyes has made us more resilient and more consistent, so the challenge is there for next season to maintain the standards set when fans return.

"I would urge the board to give Moyes the money to spend - there are already stories about West Ham not being able to afford Jesse Lingard on a permanent basis - but they need to push the boat out to sign the right players.

"Next season will be a big one and hopefully they can keep Declan Rice, who could easily have a starring role for England at the Euros. It's not about the money for him so the way to keep Dec is to either win cups or entice him with European football.

"Hopefully even the Europa League will convince Dec to stay. He is so good - Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and probably the top clubs abroad would want him."
