League of Ireland match previews

Shamrock Rovers and Dundalk meet in Tallaght on Friday evening and both teams are attempting to maintain their 100-per-cent records this season.

Rovers have been well backed and, with Graham Burke injured, they look no more than a fair price at 11-8. They very rarely beat Dundalk and should be favourites but hardly any shorter than they are.

Rory Gaffney could make his Hoops debut with Burke sidelined while Dundalk remain depleted, although neither side have conceded a goal this season. These can be cagey affairs and there is little obvious value in the prices.

Bohemians will fancy their hopes of exposing some frailties in Derry at Brandywell and look value on the Asian handicap.

The Gypsies have won away to Waterford and at home to Sligo since week one, managing to not concede a goal, while Derry remain a work in progress.

Derry nearly lost last Friday to Finn Harps, who make a much longer visit this week to Cork City.

Harps had Monday off due to the weather and face a cobbled-together Cork side who must be utterly bereft of confidence, having shipped ten goals already and scored none.

Cork should probably be favourites but the odds look generous about a positive result for Harps given how inexperienced this Cork team are and how well Harps have started the campaign. They will enjoy Turner's Cross.

Shelbourne and St Patrick's enjoy a first league clash in Tolka Park in many years, and while Patrick's are deserving favourites they are likely to face a scrap.

In Division One, Wexford look a bit of value in Bray and Galway should ease past Shamrock Rovers II.
