Latest football betting news & odds: Steve Bruce cut for Newcastle job
Sheffield Wednesday boss goes odds-on for vacancy
Boylesports have suspended betting on Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce being named the new Newcastle manager after the former Sunderland coach plummeted from 50-1 to 1-5 to fill the vacancy.
Bruce became the first name linked with the job to go odds-on after it was reported he is being considered by the Magpies.
He becomes the eighth new favourite for the job, usurping Mikel Arteta, who is available at 7-1, while Jose Mourinho (7-1), John Terry (10-1) and Sheffield United's Chris Wilder (14-1) are among the others in the mix.
Bruce quashed links when speaking on Radio Sheffield last week. He said: "I've been on holiday. I never take any notice of all that sort of speculation or tittle-tattle.
"I think there have been 150 managers associated with Newcastle. I would suppose I'm going to be one of them."
The Magpies are 3-1 to be relegated from the Premier League next season.
