Pepe Mel's Deportivo La Coruna hell is over after he was sacked but new boss Cristobal Parralo made a shocking start in the Copa del Rey against Las Palmas and the same opponents could make it a miserale first La Liga match in charge.

Cristobal could only watch in horror as his new charges got stuffed 4-1 in the Riazor on Thursday and he could not lay all the blame on Juanfran's red card on 24 minutes as Depor were already 2-0 down at the time.

Lucas Perez pulled one back before Jonathan Calleri took the tie away from a Deportivo team beaten 2-1 by a weakened Girona in their previous La Liga match, a result which saw time called on Mel's stint.

Cristobal has been promoted from the B team and sorting Deportivo's horrendous road record will be one of his most difficult tasks.

The La Coruna-based outfit have won two away league matches since the start of 2016 and the last of those was against relegated Sporting Gijon nine matches ago.

Las Palmas have struggled this season but they have faced tough fixtures against Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Barcelona, Celta Vigo and Villarreal as well an underrated Leganes outfit.

Malaga and Athletic Bilbao have been beaten and the Islanders can make the most of home advantage in Gran Canaria.
