Joey Barton's Fleetwood could prioritise league form

Back Bury for home victory

Joey Barton has not tended to care much for the minor cup competitions this season and his Fleetwood side could bite the EFL Trophy dust after their trip to Gigg Lane to face Bury.

Fleetwood, who fielded a reserve side in the League Cup loss at Leicester, know that only a win will do in terms of qualification but judging by their efforts in this competition it appears the tournament is well down on Barton's list of priorities.

“I am not being disrespectful to the competition, but we have rotated in the games we have played," said Barton after the 2-0 home defeat to Rochdale.

"We have seen an opportunity to have a look at players on the periphery of the squad, who are in and around the group, and also look at the younger players and blood them in."

Fleetwood played in the FA Cup on Sunday, beating Alfreton, and Barton is likely to be focusing on Saturday's televised Sky Bet League One clash against Walsall.

Finding worthwhile bets in this competition with such little team news to go on is difficult but if Bury are focused they should secure their passage into the knockout phase with a win.
