Match preview

Ireland’s 2-2 draw with Belgium on Saturday demonstrated how far Stephen Kenny’s side have come in the last 12 months and they can continue their progress with a comfortable win over Lithuania.

The Eastern Europeans finished bottom of their World Cup qualifying group and have lost 11 of their last 14 games. They scraped past San Marino 2-1 on Friday so are a considerable step down from facing the world number one side.

Kenny’s aim since coming in as Ireland manager has been to get his side playing more attractive, attacking football and they should be able to demonstrate that against a side who conceded 19 times in eight World Cup qualifiers.

The hosts have scored at least twice in four of their last five internationals and are fancied to overcome a goal deficit on the handicap.
