Team news
Ipswich
Oli Hawkins (knee) misses out and James Norwood (hamstring) is a doubt.
Sunderland
Denver Hume and Conor McLaughlin (both hernia) are sidelined but Danny Graham (knee) may return. Lynden Gooch (Covid-19) has been out for the last two weeks.
Match preview
Promotion-chasing Ipswich are just two points outside of the League One playoffs despite losing all of their seven matches against the top seven teams, but their dreadful record in big matches can improve with a victory over Sunderland.
Pressure is mounting on Ipswich manager Paul Lambert, who has returned to the dugout after being laid low by Covid-19.
But Lambert has been getting some better news on the injury front with several key players returning to fitness and his team competed reasonably well in Saturday's narrow 1-0 loss at home to highflying Peterborough.
Lambert needs points as well as positive performances to get the critics off his back and his team can cause problems for seventh-placed Sunderland, who are another massive club falling well below sky-high expectations.
The Black Cats were far from convincing 1-0 winners at home to Shrewsbury on Saturday and they could be edged out at Portman Road.
Key stat
Sunderland have not won on their last seven league visits to Portman Road.
