Wednesday preview

Scotland continue to make steady progress despite their failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup but they are below full strength for their friendly in Turkey and may struggle.

The next big challenge for Scotland manager Steve Clarke is to forge a path to Euro 2024 and given some luck with injuries and suspensions he has every chance of succeeding.

However, it is hard to see how the friendly with Turkey is going to help him prepare for a qualifying campaign which starts with a home match against Cyprus on March 25.

Clarke's selection is complicated by the withdrawal of Nathan Patterson, Kenny McClean and Che Adams and by Celtic's decision to head off on a tour to Australia.

He can call on influential quartet Andy Robertson, Kieran Tierney, John McGinn and Scott McTominay but there could be some weak links in the side and Turkey can exploit them.

The Turks have had a decent year, winning promotion to the second tier of the Nations League, and should maintain their progress with a home victory.

Liechtenstein were far less successful in the Nations League, losing all of their six games, but they can end a disappointing spell on a positive note with a victory in Gibraltar.

The teams last faced each other in the 2020 Nations League with Gibraltar winning 1-0 in Vaduz and drawing 1-1 on home soil.

However, Liechtenstein won the shot count on both occasions and their luck may be about to change.
