MLS 12.30am Sunday night

Wayne Rooney's new career at DC United has got off to a decent start but his team host an Atlanta side who are flying in their latest MLS contest on Sunday night.

Rooney scored twice in the capital side's recent 4-1 victory over Portland but all the talk before this clash at Audi Field has been about the forward on the opposing side.

Atlanta are in great form and striker Josef Martinez has embodied that effort with an MLS record number of goals in a season.

He has found the net on 28 occasions and more remarkable is that his strike in their win over Orlando City last time out was the ninth successive match in which he has netted.

So DC will have their work cut out to prevent him extending both his and his team's excellent run and their situation is not helped by potential fatigue.

This will be DC's third game in eight days - they have not been forced to travel as they are catching up with home matches following the construction of their new stadium - and it could be that Atlanta head into the match in fresher condition. They will certainly be more confident.
