Improving Union look too lively for struggling visitors New England

New England Revolution boast the worst away record in the Eastern Conference and their trip to in-form Philadelphia Union is unlikely to produce a first road win of the campaign.

Union have won five of their last six matches on their own patch and last week’s hard-fought 1-0 win over conference rivals DC United was a reminder that they are a side to take seriously when supplied with home advantage.

Philadelphia’s list of recent scalps in Pennsylvania include wins over Colorado Rapids (2-1), Houston Dynamo (2-0) and New York Red Bulls (3-0) and if Jim Curtin’s troops display the same cutting edge New England should be added to their hit list.

Revolution are hugely reliant on their home form. They have picked up just 15 per cent of their points on their travels, averaging less than a goal a game, and they are one of just four MLS sides yet to record an away win.

The visitors have shipped 18 times in just nine away matches. They conceded three goals in a draw at labouring Seattle and threw away a 1-0 half-time lead when going down to the goal-shy New York Red Bulls.

The Revolution will be rueing the absence of the influential Scott Caldwell, while Gershon Koffie’s injury leaves a big hole to fill in the centre of the park.

Philadelphia’s prolific CJ Sapong has netted eight goals this term and will be quick to exploit any defensive errors, while the creative Haris Medunjanin could cause plenty of problems.

Union can continue their recent home revival and punters should pounce on the 10-9 available.
