Match preview

Blackburn are heading into the New Year as the Championship’s hottest property and they can showcase their promotion credentials with a sixth straight success at Hull.

The recent faltering of Fulham and Bournemouth has allowed Rovers to bridge the gap at the top to three points and, even if factoring in Hull’s recent improvement, they should maintain the winning run in Yorkshire.

Tony Mowbray’s side are scoring goals freely - only Fulham have netted more than their 41-goal haul - and are now defending resolutely after five consecutive clean sheets.

Blackburn have shut out second-placed Bournemouth and playoff hopefuls Stoke in their last two road trips and in Chilean international Ben Brereton Diaz, who has 19 goals in 24 games, they have a potent weapon the Tigers do not.

Hull have eased their relegation fears with four wins from their last seven league games but each of those victories came against bottom-half sides. They were beaten 2-1 at Nottingham Forest last time out, suggesting this hike in grade may be beyond them.
