Team news

Hull City
Eric Lichaj and Herbie Kane are out for the season. Reece Burke, Jordy de Wijs, Ryan Tafazolli, Martin Samuelson, Kevin Stewart, Josh Bowler, Jon Toral and James Scott are also crocked. Matt Pennington should return.

Swansea
Classy centre-back Mike van der Hoorn is out and has been joined on the sick list by midfielder George Byers.

Preview

Taking a chance on a team just three days after they were booed off the pitch having failed to manage a single shot on target might seem like madness, yet despite that Swansea get the nod at the Kcom Stadium.

Hull and Swansea meet with both clubs in desperate need of ending mini-slumps and the Swans look best placed to pull it off.

Their dreary 0-0 draw at home to QPR which so enraged the Jack Army was a fourth match in a row without a win. On the same night Hull crashed 3-0 at Blackburn and have picked up just one point from their last possible 18.

They are a side under Grant McCann who like to play on the counter – they boast the joint-most counter-attack goals in the Sky Bet Championship – but they were always up against it at Ewood Park with just over 29 per cent possession.

McCann’s main problem is a crippling injury crisis, while his side are also coming to terms with the January exit of top scorer Jarrod Bowen and winger Kamil Grosicki, who between them were responsible for 51 per cent of City’s goals output this term.

Tigers diehards are praying Marcus Maddison is the real deal but whether he is or not, this looks a prime time for the Swans to be heading to East Yorkshire.

Swansea have picked up 22 points away, two more than Hull have managed at home, and have lost just three times on their travels all term. Admittedly, their lone road win over the last three months was at Luton but Steve Cooper’s side are decent away and will doubtless be grateful to get away from the Liberty so soon after Tuesday night’s no-show.

Hull’s defence is a long way from first choice, they haven’t kept a clean sheet in eight and only three of their divisional rivals have shipped more home goals.

Key stat

Hull have conceded first in each of their last seven games.
