Match preview
West Brom’s Sky Bet Championship titles hopes all but faded after Tuesday’s bore draw with Fulham but there is still work to be done to secure their promotion and they can edge one step closer to an immediate return to the Premier League with victory at Huddersfield.
The Championship title is at the mercy of Leeds but the scrap for second is still in the balance with Slaven Bilic’s Baggies holding a one-point cushion on Brentford with two games to go.
The scenario is a simple one for West Brom, with victory in their final two outings enough to regain them their top-flight status, and a trip to a goal-shy Huddersfield should pose few problems for a team boasting such attacking flair.
Prior to being held to a goalless draw by Fulham, West Brom had claimed ten points from a possible 12, scoring nine goals in recording wins over Sheffield Wednesday, Hull and Derby.
West Brom’s attack is spearheaded by Charlie Austin, Matheus Pereira, Grady Diangana and Kamil Grosicki - they have Matt Phillips, Callum Robinson and Hal Robson Kanu in reserve - and they should prove far too lively for the toothless Terriers.
Huddersfield, just three points clear of the relegation places, remain well-organised under Danny Cowley but they find goals hard to come by and West Brom’s quality should eventually tell.
The Terriers played out their third goalless draw in four games at Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday and they have now failed to score in six of their last eight games.
Huddersfield have suffered 2-0 defeats at home to Wigan and Luton since the Championship restarted and they have become reliant on the services of 18-goal striker Karlan Grant.
The Baggies are stronger in virtually every department and it would be something of a surprise if they fail to take maximum points from their visit to the John Smith’s Stadium.
Key stat
West Brom have lost only one of their last eight league games.
