Match preview

The change in manager during football's Covid 19-enforced break was showing signs of doing the trick for Luton following the restart, as the Hatters claimed draws away at Leeds and at home to Preston while claiming three points at playoff-chasing Swansea.

However, the honeymoon period for returning manager Nathan Jones didn't last, with his side suffering a 5-0 drubbing at home to Reading on Saturday and then, equally as damaging, conceding late against fellow strugglers Barnsley on Tuesday night to draw 1-1.

That leaves the Hatters bottom of the Championship and five points from safety with four games to play. And while a likely points deduction for Wigan would work in Luton's favour, they still have a mountain to climb if they are to evade the drop.

Friday's hosts, Huddersfield, are among the teams that Jones's men will be hoping to reel in over the next fortnight. However, the Terriers have been scrapping hard since the restart to get themselves over the line, losing to highflying Nottingham Forest and in-form Wigan, but going on to keep three consecutive clean sheets thereafter.

The run includes battling 0-0 draws with superior duo Reading (away) and Preston (home) as well as an impressive 3-0 victory at Birmingham and manager Danny Cowley will be pleased with how his team has tightened up defensively in their pursuit of Championship safety.

Huddersfield have kept three clean sheets in their five home games against fellow bottom-seven teams so far and Cowley will be looking to keep another to edge one step closer to safety.

Key stat

Huddersfield have kept four clean sheets in their last five games against teams outside the Championship's top six.
