Match preview

Harrogate had high hopes of catching champions Barrow when the National League season was cut short but they may not click into the same form following a lengthy layoff in their semi-final playoff against Boreham Wood.

Harrogate had four points to make up on Barrow with nine games remaining but they had lost only one of their last 11 outings and had a crunch clash with the Bluebirds on the horizon.

However, Harrogate have been out of competitive action since early March and at least Boreham Wood have highlighted their wellbeing with last weekend’s 2-1 victory over Halifax in the eliminator round of the playoffs.

Wood battled back from 1-0 down to get the better of Halifax with veteran striker Matt Rhead clinching it late on for the hosts. They finished the stronger of the sides and won the shots-on-target count 8-3.

Wood, whose attack also includes Kabongo Tshimanga and Tyrone Marsh, lost only nine of their 37 games in the regular season and had the best away record in the division.

Luke Garrard’s men collected 32 points from their 19 away games which included holding Harrogate to a goalless draw in Yorkshire in September.

Boreham Wood followed that up with a 2-1 win at home to Harrogate in December and in a tight game where goals may be in short supply, backing the visitors to avoid defeat makes most appeal.

Harrogate may take some time to find their stride and Wood look ready to capitalise.

Key stat

Boreham Wood have kept clean sheets on their last two trips to Harrogate.
