Missed penalties from Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and striker Alvaro Morata meant Arsenal won the Community Shield in a Wembley shootout and the Gunners are 4-9 to kick off the Premier League season with a home win over Leicester on Friday.

Champions Chelsea – 8-11 favourites to lift the trophy – had taken the lead just after half-time through Victor Moses, a 20-1 chance to score first, but the Blues lost their way after Pedro was shown a red card.

Summer signing Sead Kolasinac powered in a header to make it 1-1 before Courtois blasted his spot-kick over the bar and £60m Morata dragged his effort wide.

It was Arsenal’s third Community Shield win in four years but bookmakers don’t expect it to herald a glorious campaign for Arsene Wenger.

The north London side are 12-1 to win the Premier League – joint-fifth in the betting alongside Liverpool – although BoyleSports trimmed them to 11-1 for the title. Betfair make Arsenal 5-4 to finish above Chelsea and evens to end up higher than Tottenham.

Chelsea are 7-2 to retain their league title and Morata, signed from Real Madrid, is 10-1 to win the Golden Boot.

Alexandre Lacazette, who hit the post for Arsenal in the first half, is a 12-1 chance to be the top Premier League goalscorer.

Leeds are 16-1 to win the Sky Bet Championship after a 3-2 victory at promoted Bolton.

Aberdeen and Rangers made winning starts in the Ladbrokes Premiership. The Dons beat Hamilton 2-0 and the Gers saw off Motherwell 2-1 thanks to a brace from debutant midfielder Graham Dorrans.

Celtic are 1-16 to hold on to their league crown with Rangers 12-1 and Aberdeen 20-1.

Holland won the Women’s Euro 2017 final after a pulsating 4-2 win over Denmark. The teams shared four goals in the first 33 minutes before the hosts – 4-5 favourites at kick-off – struck twice in the second half.
