Kashima Antlers v Sydney FC
10am Tuesday

The Aussies are having a hard time in the Asian Champions League, which can hardly encourage Sydney as they head to Japan to take on Kashima Antlers.

Sydney head for the Kashima Stadium bottom of Group H with one point to their name, while Kashima are top on seven points.

The Japanese powers won 2-0 in Sydney last week and were hugely impressive against the A-League leaders. In a game of few chances which the visitors controlled, two set-pieces settled the issue.

Sydney are a long way from being tailed off but can ill afford to lose if they harbour hopes of qualifying.

The stats are against them. They’ve never beaten Japanese opposition in six previous meetings -indeed, they haven't scored in four of those matches.

And so far in this year’s tournament, the three Australian sides – Sydney, Melbourne Victory and Brisbane – have failed to muster a single win between them.

This is pretty much a free shot for Sydney, whose grip on top spot in the A-League looks secure, but the well-organised Antlers have conceded only one goal in their last four and will be quite content to turn this match into a non-event.

Graham Arnold’s men are a big price though it seems fully deserved. The bet could be under 2.5 goals at 11-10. Two of each side’s three matches have yielded no more than two goals.

Recommendation
Under 2.5 goals
