Galaxy tactics suggest goals on trip to Minnesota

There looks to be plenty of value in a bet on over 3.5 goals when expansion team Minnesota United host five-time MLS Cup winners LA Galaxy at TCF Bank Stadium.

Seven of Minnesota’s 11 MLS games have featured four or more goals and last weekend’s 3-2 defeat at Toronto hints at a return to the end-to-end encounters that marked the beginning of the Loons’ inaugural campaign.

Atlanta United won 6-1 and Real Salt Lake were beaten 4-2 in Minneapolis before Adrian Heath’s side tightened up in front of their own fans by edging out Colorado Rapids 1-0, losing 1-0 to San Jose Earthquakes and then beating Western Conference leaders Sporting Kansas City 2-0 a fortnight ago.

Away head coach Curt Onalfo could well be thinking that attack is the best form of defence with back-four regulars Robbie Rogers and Bradley Diallo absent and home forwards Christian Ramirez and Kevin Molino sharing 11 goals.

Galaxy are enduring a strangely inconsistent season but last Sunday they inflicted a first home defeat of the season on New York Red Bulls. That 3-1 success was also only the second away win in 21 MLS games at Red Bull Stadium so it should have lifted confidence further after a battling 2-2 home draw with Chicago Fire.

Galaxy, for whom Romain Alessandrini has netted six times, showed a cutting edge on their first three road trips, winning 2-1 at Real Salt Lake before a 4-2 loss at Vancouver Whitecaps and a 2-1 reverse at Orlando City.
