David Moyes West Ham

David Moyes has already lifted spirits at West Ham, steering them to a thumping 4-0 victory at home to Bournemouth, and looks the right man to steer the Hammers to safety.

West Ham looked a dejected bunch towards the end of Manuel Pellegrini's tenure but have stopped feeling sorry for themselves and were rewarded for playing at a much higher intensity against the Cherries.

Moyes has always demanded hard graft from players and will need it over a sustained period because West Ham are just two points clear of the drop zone.

However, there is plenty of quality in the squad and Moyes seems to be having a positive impact on big-money buys Sebastien Haller and Felipe Anderson, who were key men in Wednesday's victory.

Bringing back Moyes, who was West Ham's manager from November 2017 to May 2018, is a sensible short-term appointment but, over time, his pragmatic style of football, may grate with the supporters.

The Scot has been handed an 18-month deal but it would not be the greatest surprise if he left the club this summer.

Ian Holloway Grimsby

Ian Holloway has managed in the top three tiers of English football and will get to sample life towards the foot of Sky Bet League Two after taking over at Grimsby.

The 56-year-old famously led Blackpool to the Premier League in 2010 and more recently did a decent job at QPR, where he maintained the club's second tier status despite a contracting budget.

Given his decent track record, it is slightly surprising to see him accept the offer with Grimsby.

Holloway has committed to moving his family to the area and will take a seat on the club's board.

He seems determined to give the job his full commitment and his high profile may help the Mariners to attract some better players.

Grimsby have looked solid enough at the back but their modest goals tally (23 from 23 league games) is the main reason behind their struggles this season.

Key striker James Hanson has been injured in recent weeks, so it is fair to assume that strikers will be high on Holloway's January shopping list.
