Fylde should make short work of Hartlepool

Two clubs going in different directions lock horns at AFC Fylde's Mill Farm Stadium on Saturday and it could pay to back the progressive hosts to pile on the misery for relegation-threatened Hartlepool, who are perched just three points above the National League drop zone.

A second successive relegation would be a disaster for cash-strapped Hartlepool but the signs are not good for United, who have won just one of their last 15 league games.

They haven't banked maximum points on the road since October and are playing one of the division's form teams.

Fylde edged to within two points of the playoffs last week with a thumping 7-1 victory at home to promotion rivals Aldershot.

They are the highest scorers in the division with 68 goals and have scored 43 of them in their 19 home matches.

Fylde's 22-goal top-scorer Danny Rowe leads the National League scoring charts and could have a field day against a Hartlepool defence weakened by the suspension of centre-back Scott Harrison.

A comfortable home win is on the cards, so it makes sense to back Fylde to cover a one-goal deficit on the Asian handicap, guaranteeing stakes returned in the event of a single-goal victory and a winning bet should they prevail by two or more.

Third-placed Tranmere are running out of time to catch leaders Macclesfield but they can do some damage to one of their fellow playoff contenders by beating Boreham Wood in Hertfordshire.

Rovers have lost just two of their last 17 league games and may end up regretting their slow start to the season which yielded just seven wins in the first 21 matches.

However, they are finishing strongly and look value against sixth-placed Wood, who drew 1-1 at home to mid-table Maidenhead on Tuesday.
