Free-scoring Bochum can edge past sinking hosts

Kaiserslautern coach Tayfun Korkut has promised his underperforming side will be brave against Bochum tonight but the fallen giants could sink even further into the mire.

The aim at the start of the campaign will have been to get out of Bundesliga 2 but rather than going up to the top flight there is more chance of Kaiserslautern slipping down to the oblivion of Germany’s third tier.

Kaiserslautern have won the German title four times and the German Cup twice, while they were Champions League quarter-finalists in 1999 and Uefa Cup semi-finalists just 15 years ago. Now they are absolutely miles away from that level.
