Betting preview

Hearts had to wait five weeks to appoint Daniel Stendel as their new manager, but they can make it worth the wait with victory over struggling St Johnstone.

The Tynecastle side have had an awful campaign given their stature. The threat of relegation still looms large, which is a ludicrous situation given the players at their disposal.

It took them an age to replace Craig Levein – who remains at the club as director of football – but persuading Stendl to join could be a step in the right direction.

The German boss did a fine job at Barnsley and Jambos fans will be hoping he can put an end to some atrocious performances.

He could hardly have picked more welcoming first opponents than St Johnstone.

The struggling Saints are particularly weak in central defence, which is an area Hearts will look to exploit through the likes of forward Uche Ikpeazu.

St Johnstone have yet to win away from home this season and another miserable away-day is on the cards.

Also in the top flight, Livingston look a big price to win at St Mirren.
Gary Holt’s side were superb in a 3-0 rout of Kilmarnock last time out and they should have won by even more.

The injuries they had are beginning to clear and they will fancy their chances of taking three points back from their trip to Paisley.

St Mirren had lost six of their last seven games before last week’s victory at Hamilton but Livi can snuff out any hint of a revival.

Jim Goodwin’s hosts are usually organised, but they struggle to break down teams and the loss of defender Gary MacKenzie is a real blow.

Back Livi to replicate their win in August’s reverse fixture.
Annan Athletic can put themselves into promotion contention in Ladbrokes League Two with victory over Edinburgh City at Galabank.

Peter Murphy’s side have scored 11 goals in their last two home games, which included a 6-1 hammering of title favourites Cove Rangers. They also battered Brechin City 5-2 a month ago.

Edinburgh beat moneybags Cove last week, but they were hanging on towards the end of their 2-1 win at Ainslie Park.

Nathan Flanagan and Tommy Muir have been in great form for Athletic this season and they contribute to another Annan victory over the capital side.
