Improved showings from Shea Salinas and Danny Hoesen this season have eased the goalscoring burden on San Jose’s veteran forward Chris Wondolowski and the club are shaping up slightly better than in their dismal 2018 campaign.

The Earthquakes could muster only four wins in 34 regular-season fixtures last season and already have half that total this term.

Salinas has four goals, while Hoesen is on three, and their refreshed range of attacking options has seen them dispatch experienced MLS outfits Portland Timbers and Sporting Kansas City.

But such improvements must be taken with a pinch of salt. San Jose were dire last season and still have some way to go if they are to think about landing a playoff berth.

They still have defensive deficiencies to attend to, having been on walloped by Los Angeles FC (5-0), New York Red Bulls (4-1) and Minnesota (3-0).

Dallas are not an ideal team for them to be facing next. Luchi Gonzalez’s men are nestled in the playoff spots having won five of their opening eight league fixtures.

They are a settled squad with excellent MLS pedigree, having made the playoffs in four of the last five seasons, and this fixture should represent a routine win.

They are quoted at skinny odds so the best betting move could be to back them to be winning at half-time and full-time, as they have in their last two assignments.
