FAI Cup quarter-finals preview

Bohemians, the ante-post selections at 16-1, face a tough challenge to make the last four of the FAI Cup as they make the short journey on Sunday to take on Shelbourne at Tolka Park.

Both these sides' seasons now hinge on progress on Sunday. Bookmakers are struggling to split them and, given the local-derby aspect of the game, that seems fair. It could be a fiery contest.

Derry City are remarkably short in the market to win their televised game against Shamrock Rovers, who have never been this price in a domestic game all season.

Rovers' really busy schedule may be a help or a hindrance but they shouldn't be 2-1 in any game in Ireland and that makes plenty of appeal. They are still without doubt the best team in the country.

In Friday's matches, Waterford look big at 5-1 at home to Dundalk. Blues are safely into the First Division playoffs and can concentrate on a potential shock. Dundalk are giving away a lot of soft goals lately and, Blues' pacey attack, who have hit St Patrick's for three goals in the cup already, must have a good chance.

Treaty host UCD in a game that makes limited punting appeal. College were strangely big in the market against Galway last time and could be a bet here too but Markets Field is unlikely to suit their style of play.

In Division One, Cork City look a cracking bet against Galway United, whose manager John Caulfield has conceded defeat in the title race. United are on a grim run.
