Match preview

It is the FAI Cup final that the neutrals wanted and in a really tight betting heat, the draw looks the value between Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers.

The pre-match chat has centred around Chris Shields, who misses out for the Lilywhites. That is a huge blow, as much psychological as anything else, and it gives Rovers something of an upper hand - they have edged into favouritism since his suspension was confirmed.

Whether Rovers should be favourites against a team they took one point from in four games this season is up for debate but they are a serious side and with Graham Burke and Neil Farrugia on board they have far more of a goalscoring threat.

Whether or not to start Farrugia is a major decision for Rovers boss Stephen Bradley.

Only one of the last 13 finals was decided by more than one goal, and this should also be close. Neither team will be perturbed about the prospect of extra-time and the safe bet is the draw.

Both these teams are excellent at set-pieces and Sean Hoare of Dundalk and Lee Grace for Rovers look worthy of first-scorer dabbles.
